There are three parts to this process:

installing the application onto your computer (Windows or Mac)installing a USB driver onto your computer (Windows only) jailbreaking your Roku device itself with the RoCast application

Jailbreaking your Roku device can be frustrating and time-consuming. But it’s worth it when you can gain access to the new channels and features that Roku offers its users who jailbreak their devices. With this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know about jailbreaking your Roku device, making it super easy to install new channels or add apps to your existing ones.

And soon, you’ll be enjoying your favorite streaming service on your TV in ways you never imagined!

First thing you need to Jailbreak Roku

A PC or Mac that’s connected to your router via an Ethernet cable. You can also do it wirelessly, but for newbies and for people who don’t have Wi-Fi passwords on hand, that could be more trouble than it’s worth. You’ll also need a few common tools: a micro USB cable (like you’d use with many Android phones), a rooting stick (also called a Roku Stick) or one of those small plastic discs that look like coins with a hole in them. Lastly, you’ll need a USB flash drive with at least 1GB of free space (2GB is ideal) for storing apps.

See Step 3 below to get more detailed information about what devices work best with jailbreaking and how to set everything up.

Second step

How to Install OSMC on Your Raspberry Pi: Once you have your Raspberry Pi set up and running, it’s time to install a media center software called OSMC. This is where you get all of your apps like Kodi and Netflix, as well as change any settings or customize OSMC however you like.

The setup process is pretty straightforward—just download OSMC, put it on an SD card (the same one that will be used in your Pi), and insert it into your Pi for installation. To complete installation and make sure everything is working properly, reboot your Raspberry Pi with a keyboard connected so that you can see what’s happening in real time.

Step three

Ensure you have gone into your settings and enabled developer mode:

From within your Settings, click on System.  Then, click About toward the bottom of your screen. Scroll down and look for Developer Options.  Click on that until it says Developer Mode is ON.

Once you do that, you will see a message pop up saying something along these lines: Your Roku has been modified and cannot be updated from an unauthorized source.

Step four

Connect your computer and your Roku device. In most cases, you can do so via WiFi connection. You’ll need to access a browser on your computer and navigate through it to your router’s administration page (just enter in an IP address into a web browser). The default login information for most routers is typically admin and password. You’ll then have to port forward an IP address that matches one of those on your Roku device.

Step five

Find and install a rooting app: There are many rooting apps out there, but I recommend Sn0wbreeze.

Once you download it, you’ll have to run a custom autoloader file that contains your operating system files on top of a modified Linux kernel.  The custom kernel will allow you to alter your existing bootloader while keeping all of your existing system software intact, which makes installation simple and foolproof.

Remember: jailbreaking isn’t permanent so don’t be afraid to try new software in order to find something that works best for you.

Step six

After installing Xcode, launch it. You’ll be greeted with a screen that tells you what version of Xcode you have installed.

Click Close and then launch Cydia Impactor again.  It will tell you that your computer has detected Xcode and ask if you want to configure it for your developer ID (your Apple ID) or some other generic account name.

Final result

It has been revealed that in order to jailbreak a Roku you must use an HDMI cable. This will help you access your device and add certain channels through which you can view movies and shows.

Make sure not to tamper with any other cables such as RF or power cables, unless you are attempting a factory reset. You may only insert them into their designated ports because inserting them into different ports could seriously damage your unit.

Remember that when jailbreaking a Roku it is imperative that you follow all of these steps to avoid any problems or errors in creating your own personal content library for viewing on your streaming device.
